Svatos nets hat trick, Bears win 5-2 at Bridgeport

The win for HERSHEY the 30th of the year as the BEARS begin a stretch of four games in five nights with an impressive road victory at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport 5-2.

Bridgeport would strike first while the BEARS were on the power play in the first period. Sound Tiger defenseman Cole Jarrett took a pass from Brendan Yarema and scored a short-handed goal at the 8:13 mark of the first to give Bridgeport a 1-0 lead. The goal for Jarrett was his first of the season. HERSHEY would rebound late in the period to tie the game before first intermission thanks to Marek Svatos. Svatos danced into the Bridgeport zone and fired a hard wrist shot past Sound Tiger goaltender Dieter Kochan to tie the game 1-1. Jamie Rivers and Johnny Boychuk picked up assists on the goal. The BEARS outshot Bridgeport 17-6 in the first en route to the 1-1 deadlock.

HERSHEY would score the game's only goal in the second period when Jeff Ulmer picked off a puck at the Bridgeport blue line and cruised in against Kochan for his 15th goal of the season. Ulmer also picked up his second short-handed goal of the year on the tally at 2:38 mark of the second to give the BEARS a 2-1 lead. The shots in the period were even at 12, but the BEARS would take a one goal lead into the third period.

In the third, Brett Clark scored a power play goal to give the BEARS a 4-1 lead at the 10:08 mark before Bridgeport's Matt Koalska brought the Tigers back within two with a power play goal at 15:19. Svatos finished off a hat trick with an empty netter at 18:36 to give HERSHEY the 5-2 win. The hat trick was the first for a BEARS skater since Mathieu Darche potted three on December 31 against Philadelphia. The victory was the 23rd for Peter Budaj and the 30th of the year for HERSHEY as a team.

The BEARS travel to Philadelphia Friday night to meet the Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. before hosting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday night at GIANT Center at 7:00 p.m. HERSHEY will also be at home Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. to honor the memory of Frank Mathers prior to the game with the Albany River Rats.
