February 23, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Edmonton Road Runners News Release
If you missed the World's Longest Game, the Edmonton Road Runners have another chance for fans to show their support. Dr. Brent Saik, the organizer of the event, has agreed to become the Road Runners next Celebrity Chuck-A-Puck target on Saturday, February 26th.
Last weekend, a group of 40 dedicated hockey fans broke the Guinness World Record for the world's longest hockey game, playing for 240 hours straight, and recording a final score of 2254-2203. The fundraising initiative, led by Dr. Brent Saik, was designed to raise money for the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and over $100,000 was donated during the week-long event.
However, that amount is about to grow, thanks to fans of the Edmonton Road Runners. On Saturday, February 26th, at 7:00 PM, the Edmonton Road Runners face off against the Cleveland Barons at Rexall Place. Fans attending the game will be given the opportunity to show their appreciation to these 40 hearty players, who will all be in attendance, and also to raise a few extra dollars for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. For Dr. Brent Saik has accepted the challenge to put his life on the line, and stand at center ice as the Road Runners next Celebrity Chuck-A-Puck target.
"Like Canadians everywhere, we were greatly impressed by the record that was set by these local hockey players, and the amount of money they raised for cancer research," said Stew MacDonald, President of the Edmonton Road Runners. "With the Road Runners back home at Rexall Place, we wanted to show our support by offering all proceeds from Chuck-A-Puck sales to the Alberta Cancer Foundation."
Fans attending Saturday's game can purchase Chuck-A-Pucks for $1 each, with all proceeds going to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
Saturday's game is also an Edmonton Sun Family Pack Night. Fans can purchase 4 tickets, 4 soft drinks and 4 hot dogs for only $64. Plus, it's a Whopper of a Win Night. If the Road Runners win, every fan in Rexall Place will score a free Whopper from Burger King. For Road Runners ticket information, please call (780) 414-GOAL.
