Utah Grizzlies News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT - The Grizzlies knew it was going to be a tough game in the rematch with the Houston Aeros after Monday's 2-1 victory and the game lived up to billing as the Aeros out dueled the Grizzlies 3-0 marking the ninth time this season the Grizzlies have been blanked in a game.

Houston scored the first goal of the game on a beautiful play involving Matt Foy, Stephane Veilleux and Raymond Giroux. Foy entered the offensive zone and dropped a pass to Veilleux who found Giroux trailing on the play. Once alone streaking in on Grizzlies goaltender Jamie Storr, Giroux went over his stick into the top corner for his seventh goal of the season at the 8:51 mark of the opening period. Each team managed nine shots on goal with Storr making eight saves and Josh Harding turning aside nine shots for Houston.

The second period saw Houston increase their lead with a pair of goals. The first came from a point shot by Todd Reirden off a face-off win by Mikko Koivu at the 12:02 mark of the period. The Aeros added to the lead with a re-direction from Pierre-Marc Bouchard late in the period assisted by Giroux and Rickard Wallin. Houston outshot the Grizzlies 16-10 in a period that ended with a fight between goaltenders Josh Harding and Jamie Storr. With 30 seconds left in the period the teams got together with sticks up high and with several penalties handed out most notably leaving the crease and a fighting major against the netminders.

The third period continued with a lot of emotion but neither team found the back of the net. Utah outshot the Aeros 13-1 in the frame but couldn't beat Harding who made 32 saves earning his fourth shutout of the season.

The teams combined for 76 penalty minutes in the game continuing their rivalry.

Utah will travel to Chicago to face the Wolves on Saturday night with face-off scheduled for 6:00 Pm (mst).
