Surge Drop Game Five in Amarillo

AMARILLO, TX- The Wind Surge had a tough night at the plate, falling 4-1 in game five against Amarillo.

Wichita was shutout for five innings and down four runs entering the fifth inning. Spencer Steer finally put the Surge on the board with a solo home run over the left field wall. Since joining the Wind Surge roster on Tuesday, Steer has three home runs in four games played. Steer finished the night 2-3 at the plate with a walk and an RBI.

The Wind Surge had no answer offensively as Steer's solo home run was all they could put on the board.

Austin Schulfer lasted 4.2 innings in his 11th start of the season. Schulfer allowed four runs on six hits and struck out two. Alex Phillips was effective out of the bullpen tonight. Phillips went 2.1 innings of relief allowing just two hits and struck out two batters. Zach Neff finished the last inning with no hits and a strikeout.

Amarillo starter Bryce Jarvis pitched seven innings and earned his first Double-A win. He allowed one run on five hits and eleven strikeouts, setting a new franchise record for Amarillo.

NOTES: Including tonight, Wichita has homered in each of their last seven games. Austin Schulfer streak of 20 1/3 scoreless innings was snapped. Wichita fell to 6-2 in Saturday games.

COMING UP: Wichita will play the series finale against the Amarillo Sod Poodles tomorrow night (7/4). First pitch is set for 7:05 pm from Amarillo, Texas. The Wind Surge return home on Tuesday to play the Kansas City Royals affiliate the NW Arkansas Naturals.
