Suns win over Power, 7-1

The Suns found their pitching and a victory Thursday night at Municipal Stadium, 7-1 in a 6 1/2 inning game.

Playing through a steady rain for much of the night, the Suns pounded out 13 hits against the Power, forcing West Virginia to send their rightfielder out to pitch the seventh.

Before Adam Mannon could throw a pitch the game was suspended and then called due to the driving rain. The rain-shortened contest was made official once the Power were retired in the top of the fifth inning with the Suns ahead by 6 runs.

Grant Psomas started the scoring early, blasting a 2-run homerun off starter Greg Kloosterman in the first inning. Carlos Gomez led off the third with a mammoth homer that bounced on top of the center field wall before falling over.

Meanwhile, starter Mike Devaney was cruising throw the Power lineup, allowing just 1 hit through the 6 innings. Devaney upped his record to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 against West Virginia.

The Power finally got on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly by Josh Brady in the seventh inning. Until then, the Suns had gone 17 innings without scoring against Hagerstown.

Despite only last 6 1/2 innings, the Suns put on quite the offensive showcase including hits by all 9 players who started and second straight 3-3 game by Gomez.

Jim Burt picked up his first hit with runners in scoring position, knocking in Derran Watts with a single up the middle. Tomorrow the Suns will throw Gabriel Hernandez against newcomer Eric Thomas.
