
Gnats shortstop Desmond promoted to Potomac

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Washington Nationals announced Wednesday that Savannah Sand Gnats shortstop Ian Desmond has been transferred to the Potomac Cannons, the organization's High-A, Carolina League affiliate. Desmond, the 2004 third round draft selection of the Montreal Expos, played in 73 games for Savannah this season batting .247, 4 HR, and 23 RBI. At the time of his promotion, Desmond led the Sand Gnats in stolen bases with 20. In his debut for Potomac Wednesday night, Desmond was 3-for-5 with a home run and 2 RBI.
