Rome, GA - Timely hitting paid off on Thursday night as Rome defeated the Greenville Bombers 3-2 in front of 3,041 fans.
The Braves got off to an early start in the bottom of the second inning with Ardley Jansen driving in Carlos Guzman on an RBI single. J.C. Holt followed with a double to left field to score Guzman, making the score 2-0.
Greenville came back in the top of the third. Followed by a pair of singles and a walk, Andrew Pinckney grounded into a force out, bringing home Christian Lara to cut the lead to 2-1.
Rome added an insurance run in the seventh as Jansen singled to center field, followed by a Holt ground out advancing him to second. Jansen managed to score on a Matt Young RBI single, capping the Braves score at 3-1.
The Bombers' closed the gap to 3-2 in the eighth on a solo home run by Pinckney.
Jonathan Venters picked up the win for the Braves (6-4) with James Parr getting the save (2). Greenville's Gardner received the loss (2-7).
Rome goes on the road tomorrow against the Hickory Crawdads for a four-game series. The Braves will be back at State Mutual Stadium on July 13 facing the Kannapolis Intimidators. Call the Braves ticket hotline at 378-5144 for ticket information
