Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Kannapolis, NC - Josh Hansen's RBI single in the 12th drove in Chris Getz and handed the Intimidators their 5th straight win 7-6 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. With the victory and a Greenville loss the I's move into a three way tie for first place with the Bombers and Charleston Riverdogs. After stranding the winning run at second and third in the 10th and 11th innings, Getz led off the 12th with a walk (his third of the night). Jose De Los Santos was hit by a pitch, and Ryan McCarthy reached on a fielding error to load the bases in front of Hansen's single.
The I's now 8-5 got two innings of relief from Matt Zaleski who earned his first win (1-3 3.38). Ben Cox took the loss (2-3 3.15).
Kannapolis fell behind early when a De Los Santos throwing error allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate in the first. Savannah got three unearned against I's starter Jack Egbert who went 5.1 innings yielding seven hits and four runs - just one of them earned. The I's pulled within one at 3-2 in the 5th when Sean Smith hit a home run to left, his seventh of the year.
In the next half inning the Sand Gnats chased Egbert driving in three runs on three hits to take a 6-2 lead. Kannapolis had to come back in the eighth with three runs. An RBI single by Adam Ricks tied it in the ninth.
The I's swept the four game series with Savannah - K-town's first sweep of the season. It's also the first time the I's have won four in a row. Kannapolis hosts a four game series with Greenville starting tomorrow. The I's and Bombers are two of the three teams tied for first in the Southern Division. They get underway at 7:05 pm at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
