Hagerstown Suns News Release
Hagerstown, MD - Andrew Lee struck out a career-high 12 hitters as the Hagerstown Suns walked-off in the 10th inning against the Lexington Legends in the series finale Wednesday at Historic Municipal Stadium. The Suns are 14-23 in the second half and 41-64 overall and will start a four-game series with the Hickory Crawdads Thursday night with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
After six scoreless innings, the Legends plated a run against Suns reliever Jorge Pantoja. Cristian Perez was hit by a pitch to lead off, Manny Olloque singled to right, and with one out Carlos Diaz singled to left to load the bases. William Hancock skied a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Perez to give Lexington a 1-0 advantage while Olloque moved to third on the play. Ricky Aracena grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning and the threat.
Hagerstown answered with a run of their own in the latter half of the inning against Legends starter Carlos Hernandez. Jake Scudder crushed his sixth home run of the season, tying the game at 1-1. Scudder swung at the first pitch he saw in the seventh, bouncing the ball off the back wall in right field at Historic Municipal Stadium. Hernandez retired the next three Suns hitters to end the inning.
The Suns walked off in the tenth against Legends reliever Connor Snider. Omar Meregildo started the inning on second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Phil Caulfield. Alex Flores grounded a ball to second that bounced off of Aracena's glove into center field, allowing Meregildo to score and give the Suns a 2-1 walk-off victory in the series finale.
Lee pitched six scoreless innings while allowing three hits, a walk, and striking out a career-high 12 batters in a no-decision on Wednesday. Pantoja spun two innings, giving up a run on two hits and two strikeouts in his 2018 debut for the Suns.
