Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Hagerstown Suns (27-37, 63-71) showed late life in Game 2 against the Lexington Legends (32-31, 67-66) at Applebee's Park on Tuesday night but could not counter a consistent Legends stampede throughout, falling 10-7.

The Suns struck first with two runs off RHP Zach Grimmett, who did not qualify for the win, going just 3.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits. DH J.P. Ramirez hit a solo home run that stayed just fair inside the right field foul pole, his 16th of the season. Then after RF Destin Hood doubled down the line in right field, 1B Brett Newsome knocked an RBI two-base hit to deep center field, bringing home Hood to give the Suns a 2-0 lead.

Lexington answered in the last of the second stanza as DH Ben Heath homered just to the right of dead center, a solo jack. The towering blast was his fourth long ball of the season.

The Legends got three runs in the home half of the third inning when 1B Kody Hinze grounded out to second which scored SS Jiovanni Mier, who had singled to left. 3B Jonathan Meyer ripped a 2 RBI double to the alley in left center that summoned home LF Jacob Goebbert and Heath, after Goebbert doubled down the line in left, and Heath walked.

LHP Graham Hicks (1-6), in the losing effort, gave up five earned runs on nine hits in 4.0 innings of work despite striking out eight.

Lexington insurance came in the form of an RBI groundout by Mier in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth as the result of an RBI double by 2B Jimmy Paredes. A throwing error by Suns catcher Adrian Nieto on a stolen base attempt of third base by Paredes gave the Legends a 7-2 advantage.

LHP Brad Dydalewicz (1-4), the winning pitcher of record, was great for the Legends in relief, tossing 3.0 scoreless frames and allowing just one base hit.

Each club scored three runs in the seventh inning. For the Suns it was a throwing error by Legends catcher Rene Garcia allowing CF Eury Perez to touch home, who singled and then stole second and third base. Then, SS Rick Hague hit his 2nd homer of the season over the left center field fence off RHP Wander Alvino, which was a 2-run jolt.

For Lexington, Garcia scored on an RBI fielder's choice chopper by CF Grant Hogue, then Paredes wrapped an RBI single to center scoring Tello, and Mier plated Hogue with an identical liner to center to make it 10-5 headed to the ninth inning.

The Suns plated two runs in the away half of the ninth after an RBI double by Hague, who was 2-for-5 with 2 runs and 3 RBI on the night, followed by a sacrifice fly by Ramirez.

However, the rally fell short and the Suns lost for the second time against the Legends in this four-game road set.
