Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Lakewood, NJ - Chris Dominguez finished a home run shy of the cycle, but the Augusta GreenJackets' third baseman can't be too disappointed with his four-hit, four-RBI night in his team's 6-2 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Tuesday night.
Dominguez's biggest hit came in the fifth inning when his two-run triple extended a one-run Augusta lead to a three-run advantage. Earlier in the inning, Nick Liles provided an RBI infield single to break a 1-1 tie.
Andy Reichard gave up a run in the first inning for the seventh time in his 12 starts this year. After he hit leadoff man Jiwan James, Michael Dabbs singled to put runners on the corners. Jonathan Singleton's sacrifice fly put the BlueClaws out to an early 1-0 lead. The GreenJackets tied things in the third on an RBI double from Dominguez on a broken bat flare to right field.
Reichard retired 15 in a row after the BlueClaws' first run but that string was snapped on the first pitch of the sixth inning when he allowed a solo home run to Alan Scheonberger to cut Augusta's lead to two. He departed after putting two on with one out but Jose Valdez struck out the first two hitters he faced to get out of trouble in the sixth. Reichard (5-1) won his second straight with a 5.1 inning stint, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out seven.
Augusta added insurance in the seventh on a Skyler Stromsmoe groundout and Dominguez's fourth hit of the night, a run-scoring single to stretch the GreenJackets lead to four. Dominguez was left in the on-deck circle when the ninth ended, denying him the shot at the cycle and the five-hit game.
Brody Colvin (6-8) took the loss for the BlueClaws in his final tune-up before the playoffs. He allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four in four innings.
The GreenJackets finish the month of August with an 8-3 record in road games and a 16-12 overall mark - their best record in a month since going 19-10 in May. Brian Irving (7-5, 4.50) takes the hill for Augusta in the third game of the series on Wednesday against Trevor May (6-3, 3.05). First pitch from Lakewood will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com .
