Tonight: The first-half-champion Gnats look to avenge last night's 14-9 defeat in game two of a four-game series in Greensboro, N.C. in the final road series of the regular season. The Gnats finish the home portion of their regular season with a four-game series against the Asheville Tourists Friday-Monday, September 3-6.

Last Game: The GreenJackets outslugged the Gnats 14-9, in a game in which the 'Hoppers leapt out to a 13-2 lead. Savannah starter Taylor Whitentongave up nine runs, all earned, in 1.2 innings. In his SAL debut, 3B Aderlin Rodriguez was 2-5 with a double and three RBI.

Now Pitching: Darin Gorski is scheduled to make his 17th start for the Gnats tonight. Gorski has given up at least seven runs in each of his last three starts and 16 hits in his last 9.1 innings pitched. In his last three starts, he has a 13.85 ERA (20 ER/13 IP) with 24 hits, nine walks and 15 strikeouts. The Gnats are 6-10 when Gorski starts and have supported him with 4.69 runs per game, the fourth-most among Savannah starters. Last year for the Brooklyn Cyclones, Gorski was 3-4 with a 4.91 ERA in 62.1 innings over 13 appearances, 11 of which were starts. He struck out 50 batters and walked 26. The Mets selected Gorski in the 7th round of the 2009 draft out of Kutztown (PA) University where he earned the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Pitcher of the Year Award in 2009, his junior year. In 2009, Gorski led the Kutztown Golden Bears in strikeouts (100), innings pitched (78.2) and batting average against (.208). He was 10th in Division II in strikeouts.

Roster Update: The Gnats were involved in four more transactions on Tuesday to bring their second half total to 56. RHP Ramiro Peralta was promoted from the Gulf Coast League. OF Cesar Puello was placed on the disabled list with a low back strain retroactive to August 26, RHP Guillaume Leduc was placed on the disabled list effective August 26 with a right wrist strain and OF Nick Santomauro was placed on the disabled list as of August 28 with a left shoulder subluxation.

Off the Top: For the first time since April 17, the Gnats no longer lead the SAL in ERA after allowing 14 earned runs last night. The Gnats (3.13) now trail Lakewood (3.08) by five hundredths for the league ERA lead.

The New Guy: Ramiro Peralta was 1-0 with six saves and a 1.69 ERA in the Gulf Coast League. He struck out 27, walked nine and gave up just 11 hits in 21.1 innings over 15 appearances. He will turn 21 on September 8, the day the Gnats open the 2010 playoffs.

Vs. Greensboro: The Gnats are 2-2 against the Grasshoppers this year and are scheduled for seven games. The Gnats are 7-9 against Greensboro as a Mets affiliate. The last time Savannah played more than four games against Greensboro was 2005, when they were 6-2 against the Grasshoppers.

Playoff Chase: The Greenville Drive and the Asheville Tourists both lost last night, so the Drive remain one game in front of Asheville for first place and the right to face the Gnats in the first round of the SAL playoffs. The Drive have seven games remaining, while the Tourists, who play a doubleheader tonight, have eight. The Gnats are 7-11 against Asheville and 4-6 against Greenville.

The Best of the Mets: The Gnats, at 69 wins, have set a new high as a Mets affiliate. The Gnats finished 41-94 in 2007, 61-76 in 2008 and 65-72 last year.

Playoff Schedule: By virtue of winning the first half, the Gnats will have home-field advantage in the Southern Division Championship Series. The second half winner will host game one on Wednesday, September 8 before the series returns to Savannah for game two on Friday, September 10 and game three, if necessary, on Saturday, September 11.
