Suns Power to Extra Inning Victory

Zebulon, N.C. - Lee Mitchell belted two out of three Suns homeruns, including the deciding two-run blast in the tenth inning which gave the Jacksonville Suns (38-36, 3-1) a 4-2, ten-inning victory over the Carolina Mudcats (38-35, 1-3) in front of 2,9 30 Thursday night at Five County Stadium.

Suns reliever Kasey Olenberger (6-1) picked up the victory for the second consecutive night, dealing one perfect inning. Mudcats reliever Sean Watson (1-3) fell in the loss, giving up the deciding runs in the tenth inning.

The teams traded runs in the second inning, starting with a two-out, solo homerun from Lee Mitchell for a 1-0 Suns lead. In the bottom of the inning, Carolina catcher Chris Denove doubled home Jose Castro for a 1-1 score.

Carolina jumped ahead of Jacksonville in the sixth inning as Sean Henry drove in Jose Castro with a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead.

Jacksonville outfielder Mike Stanton belted his third Double-A=2 0homerun during the sixth inning, a two-out solo blast that tied the game at 2-2.

After the Suns failed to score with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning and bases loaded with two out in the ninth inning, the game was forced into an extra frame. Following a two-out walk of Lorenzo Scott in the top of the tenth inning, Lee Mitchell belted his second homerun of the game to open a 4-2 Suns lead.
