Smokies Announce Roster Moves

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce a series of roster moves before tonight's game with the Montgomery Biscuits. LHP John Gaub has been promoted to AAA-Iowa. In a corresponding roster move, RHP Todd Blackford has returned from High-A Daytona and will be available for tonight's game in Montgomery.

Blackford was 1-2 with a 7.78 ERA in 14 relief appearances for the Smokies this year. In 19.2 innings pitched, he allowed 21 runs (17 earned) on 27 hits, with 15 walks and 13 strikeouts. With Daytona, he posted a 2-0 record in four relief appearances, allowing no runs on four hits and walking one, striking out three. Originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 13th round of the 2004 MLB First-Year Player Draft, he was acquired by the Cubs via trade in 2005.

Gaub was 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA in 26 relief appearances for Tennessee this season, striking out 40 in only 28.2 innings of work. Initially drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 21st round of the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft, he was acquired by the Cubs in the Mark DeRosa trade last December.
