Mudcats Fall to Suns

Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (1-3) fell 4-2 in 10 innings to the Jacksonville Suns (3-1) Thursday night at Five County Stadium.

Lefty Tom Cochran gave the Mudcats a quality starting, throwing 7.1 innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out four Suns. Sean Watson (L, 1-3) allowed two earned runs in 2.1 innings in relief of Cochran.

Jacksonville scored all four of their runs on three home runs, including two from 3B Lee Mitchell. Mitchell knocked out a solo-homer in the second, and the go-head two-run shot in the in the 10th inning. Mike Stanton drilled a solo-homer of his own, taking Tom Cochran deep to left-center in the 6th inning.

LHP Aaron Thompson lasted five innings, surrendering two earned runs on six hits and five walks. Kasey Olenberger (W, 6-1) threw a perfect 9th inning to earn the win. Matt Peterson (S, 16) came in for the 10th inning, nailing down his league-leading 16th save.

Chris Heisey, Jose Castro and Chris Denove each had multiple hits for Carolina. Castro scored in the 2nd inning on a Denove single, and again in the 4th on a Sean Henry sacrifice fly.

Game five of the series will continue Saturday night at 7:15 PM at Five County Stadium. Carolina will send RHP Dallas Buck (2-2, 4.33) to the hill to make the start against Christhian Martinez (4-2, 1.84) of the Suns.
