
Suns Mistakes Costly as Smokies Take Win

Jacksonville, Fla. - Three errors from the Jacksonville Suns (77-58, 37-28) contributed to six unearned runs for the Tennessee Smokies (83-51, 41-24) in a 9-4 Smokies win in front of 2,511 Wednesday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Smokies reliever Aaron Shafer (2-2) pitched two hitless innings for the winning decision while Jeff Allison (6-10) allowed six runs, two earned, over four innings in the loss. Allison has allowed 12 runs over his last two starts, with only three earned.
The Suns built an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jacksonville used four consecutive two-out hits against starter Jeremy Papelbon, including an RBI double from Vinny Rottino and RBI singles from Tim Torres and John Otness for the early advantage.
Tennessee countered with two runs in the second inning with two out. Tony Thomas connected with an RBI double before a Mark Reed RBI single for a 3-2 score.
The Smokies took the lead for good in the fourth inning. With two on and two out, Matt Dominguez misplayed a ground ball to third base, allowing the tying run to score. The next batter Brett Jackson belted a three-run home run to right-centerfield, opening a 6-3 Tennessee lead.
Tennessee added another unearned run in the fifth inning when Russ Canzler singled with two out and later scored on a two-out error from Suns second baseman Ryan Curry for a 7-3 score.
In the seventh inning Thomas reached on a two-out error by Suns shortstop Ozzie Martinez and scored on a Reed single for an 8-3 lead. The Smokies added a ninth run in the eighth inning on three consecutive two-out singles, with the third from Canzler drive in Guyer for a 9-3 score.
Jacksonville added a ninth inning run on an Ozzie Martinez infield single to score Jeff Corsaletti for the 9-4 final.
LH Brad Hand will join the Suns from Class A-Advanced Jupiter for his Double-A debut on Thursday facing Smokies RH Rafael Dolis at 1:05 p.m. ET. Thursday is the final Businessperson's Special of 2010 with $14.50 buying a homeplate box seat, hot dog and large beverage.
