Carolina Mudcats News Release

Birmingham, AL --- Three Birmingham pitchers combined to one-hit the Carolina Mudcats 5-0 at Regions Park on Wednesday night.

Charles Leesman (W, 5-2) only permitted a two-out single in the fifth to Jake Kahaulelio on a bloop hit to left. Leesman walked Felix Perez to open the game, recorded a double play grounder and retired 13 straight before Kahaulelio's single.

The Barons scored a run in the second on a sacrifice fly from John Shelby, then added a run in the third on a pair of two-out doubles against Travis Webb (L, 6-9). Webb permitted a solo homer in the sixth to Cole Armstrong, then the Barons scored a pair of unearned runs in the eighth against reliever Donnie Joseph.

Carolina only had two baserunners during the game with the Barons pitchers combining to retire the final 13 batters of the game. Deunte Heath pitched a perfect eighth, with Southern League leader in saves Anthony Carter fanning two of the three hitters in the ninth.

With the series even at one game apiece, the rubber game is Thursday night at 8:05 PM ET with Daryl Thompson (0-4, 3.38) starting for the Mudcats.
