Braves Thrash Jaxx To Even Series

JACKSON, TENN. (September 1, 2010) - The Mississippi Braves (30-34) got revenge on Wednesday afternoon after dropping the opener to the Diamond Jaxx (68-66) on Tuesday night. The Braves beat the Jaxx 10-1. The loss is the fifth in six games for the Diamond Jaxx. The magic number to make the postseason remains at three and the lead is at 3 1/2 games over Huntsville and Chattanooga in the wildcard race.

Newcomers to the M-Braves, L.V. Ware and Mycal Jones combined to go 5-for-9 on Wednesday afternoon. Ware drove in a run and had three hits, while Jones added a grand slam homer and a pair of hits. Christian Colonel and Michael Daniel had two hits apiece of the 15 total by the Braves. Nate Tenbrink led the Jaxx at the plate with a 2-for-2 day, including a walk and the Jaxx only run.

J. J. Hoover (2-1) won for the Braves despite walking six in the game. Hoover allowed one run on three hits in five innings. Jimmy Gilheeney (0-2) left after three innings and suffered the loss for the Jaxx. Gilheeney, in his third Double-A start gave up six runs (four earned) with five strikeouts and two walks. For the first time this season, the Jaxx used six pitchers in a game. Gilheeney, Brian Moran, Wes Littleton, Steven Richard, Cesar Jimenez and Mumba Rivera all pitched for West Tenn on Wednesday afternoon.

The Braves opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. The ninth place batter for the M-Braves, Mycal Jones hit a grand slam homer to cap off a five-run inning. The Braves went up 5-0 in the second frame. It was the first homer in Double-A for Jones.

L.V. Ware collected his first Double-A hit and RBI in the top of the third inning. The double scored Yasser Gomez to put Mississippi on top, 6-0.

The Jaxx finally pushed a runner across in the bottom of the third inning. Alex Liddi singled home Nate Tenbrink to make the score, 6-1.

The Braves pushed three more runs across in the fourth and one run in the fifth to coast to the 10-1 victory over the Jaxx.

The Jaxx and Braves meet for the rubber game of the series on Thursday night at 7:05. RHP Luis Munoz (6-6, 3.97) starts for the Diamond Jaxx against RHP Jacob Thompson (8-9, 4.93) for Mississippi. Thursday is the final Dollar Night of 2010 and is also Back 2 School Night.
