Pitcher Jeremy Jeffress Recalled to Milwaukee

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. - September call ups have begun. Pitcher Jeremy Jeffress will join former teammate Lorenzo Cain in a Brewer uniform for tonight's game in Cincinnati. .

Jeffress started out the 2010 season in July with Single-A Brevard County. In eight appearances with the Manatees, he posted a 5.40 ERA (6-ER/10-IP) and recorded a save. He was promoted to Huntsville on July 26. He had 11 relief appearances with the Stars, earning a 1-1 record and a 1.26 ERA (2-ER/14.1-IP). He also recorded three saves.

Joining Jeffress in Milwaukee will be infielder Mat Gamel and pitcher Carlos Villanueva, who were both recalled from Triple-A Nashville. Both players were former Huntsville Stars. Gamel was with Huntsville this season on a Major League rehab assignment, hitting .393 (11-for-28) in eight games. He hit one home run and drove in five runs. Villanueva was in a Stars uniform for four games in 2005 and 11 appearances in 2006. He posted a 1-3 record with a 7.40 ERA in '05 and a 4-5 record with a 3.75 ERA in '06.

With the addition of Gamel and Jeffress to the Brewers roster, there are now five former Stars from this season alone playing in Milwaukee. Of the 28 total active players currently with the Brewers, 12 are former Stars from the last five years. Push that back to eight years and 15 of those Brewers put on the Huntsville uniform and took the field at Joe Davis Stadium.

The Stars continue their road trip in Montgomery tonight at 7:05 p.m. RHP Mark Rogers (5-8, 3.83 ERA) will take the mound for Huntsville against the Biscuits' LHP Josh Satow (1-3, 6.28 ERA). The Stars return home on Friday for the final home stand of the regular season. They are currently four games out of the Wild Card race behind West Tenn with seven games to go.
