
Mycal Jones' grand-slam propels Braves to win over Jaxx

Jackson, TN- In the middle game of a three game series, the Mississippi Braves responded to last nights loss by pounding out ten runs and fifteen hits against the West Tenn Diamond-Jaxx. The Braves scored five runs in the 2nd inning and dominated the D-Jaxx from the mound to even up the series at a game a piece.Â
In the top of the 2nd inning, the Braves collected five runs on three base hits. Shawn McGill went three for four at the plate and collected his first hit in the 2nd. The single drove in Mauro Gomez to give Mississippi a 1-0 lead. The next batter was Mycal Jones, who promptly crushed a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall for a grand-slam. It was Jones' first hit with the M-Braves and it was just the second grand-slam the Braves have had since 2008.Â
Leading 5-0, the Braves collected another run in the 3rd inning. L.V Ware's double scored Christian Colonel to make the score 6-0. The Jaxx scored their only run in the bottom of the inning. Alex Liddi's single scored Nate Tinbrink to make the score 6-1. It was Liddi's, league leading, 87th RBI.Â
Mississippi picked up three more runs in the 4th inning. After Mycal Jones singled over Shawn McGill to third, a throwing error allowed McGill to score. Eric Duncan's sac-fly RBI scored Jones and a double by Mauro Gomez brought in another run to make the count 9-1, Mississippi. The final Braves run came in the 5th when L.V. Ware scored on a bases loaded walk to Dan Nelson, Nelson walked five times in the win.
On the mound, J.J. Hoover worked five innings in earning the win. Jaye Chapman and Yeliar Castro both delivered scoreless innings and helped put the game in the win column for the Braves. The Jaxx used six pitchers in the loss.
Tomorrow night is the final game of this series and will serve as the series determining game between West Tenn and Mississippi. The Braves will send out RHP Jacob Thomson (8-9; 4.76) vs. RHP Luis Munoz (6-6; 3.97). First pitch will be at 7:05.
