Suns Hold off BayBears for Friday Win

Jacksonville, Fla. - Brad Davis drove in three runs, while Logan Morrison connected on his second Double-A homerun leading the Jacksonville Suns (33-35) to a=2 06-4 victory over the Mobile BayBears (37-31) in front of 4,789 Friday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns starter Graham Taylor (4-5) picked up the victory, allowing three runs and five hits over six and one-thirds innings with four walks and two strikeouts. Mobile starter Cody Evans (3-7) fell in the loss, allowing six earned runs and eleven hits over five innings of work. Matt Peterson (15) allowed a ninth inning run, but added to his league-leading save total.

Logan Morrison opened the Jacksonville scoring in the first, belting a solo homerun to right field for a 1-0 lead. Jacksonville added to the advantage in the second inning on a Brad Davis RBI single and Bryan Petersen sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.

The Suns opened the lead to 6-0 during the fifth inning on an Andy Jenkins sacrifice fly and Brad Davis two-run double.

Mobile added three runs in the sixth inning on a Taylor wild pitch and Ricardo Sosa two-run homerun, cutting the Suns lead to 6-3. The BayBears final run scored in the ninth inning on a James Skelton sacrifice fly for a 6-4 final.

Suns LH Aaron Thompson moves up a day for the start in game four of the series against Mobile RH Barry Enright Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Saturday is Southern Rock Night at the Baseball Grounds, as the Suns will wear special Southern Rock themed jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game to benefit the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.
