Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - After two nights in which the Lookouts featured stellar offensive production, the Mississippi Braves decided to reciprocate with a big offensive night of their own in an 8-1 win over the Lookouts in Friday night action at AT&T Field.
While baseball is often characterized as a team game, Matt Young debunked the notion by accounting for the first run of the game for the M-Braves solely by his own volition. After leading the game off with a walk, the speedster quickly swiped second. Travis Jones then struck out for the first out of the inning. Young then broke for third, and Lookouts starting pitcher Scott Elbert stepped off the rubber and threw to third, but the throw was of the errant variety, and Young made his way home.
Chattanooga countered in the second with a run of their own. Josh Bell started the inning off with a walk. Andrew Lambo then ripped a double, pushing Bell to third.
Tommy Giles followed with a ball hit to deep center, plating Bell. The Braves broke the stalemate in the fifth by scoring three runs. With one out, Brandon Hicks induced a walk and stole second. Phillip Britton followed with a double to score Hicks. Elbert loaded the bases by surrendering a Kyle Cofield single and Young walk. Jones dropped a single to right to score Britton. Elbert's struggles continued, as he proceeded to walk Willie Cabrera and, as a result, the M-Braves held a 4-1 lead.
Mississippi tacked on another run in the sixth on an RBI ground out by Britton, which was prefaced by an Eric Campbell walk and Brandon Hicks double. Two more superfluous runs were added by the M-Braves in the ninth to put the score at its final resting point, 8-1. Another insurance run was produced by the M-Braves in the eighth. Hicks singled to begin the inning and promptly made his way home on a subsequent Britton double to left.
Kyle Cofield (5-2) had a stellar performance for the M-Braves to earn the win. In seven innings, he relinquished just one run on three hits and one walk. He struck out two over the course of the outing. Elbert (2-3) took the loss for the Lookouts, throwing five innings and yielding four runs (three earned) on three hits and five walks. He struck out 10 in the losing effort.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Mississippi Braves will continue their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
