Mississippi Braves News Release
Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves are proud to announce that Ticket Manager Bob Askin has accepted a similar position with the Atlanta Braves. Askin has been the M-Braves Ticket Manager since the team moved to Pearl in 2005. His last day in Mississippi is today, Friday, June 19th. He will report to Atlanta this weekend and begin work for the big league club on Monday.
In his new role in Atlanta, Bob will be the Senior Manager, Ticket Operations for the Atlanta Braves. He will manage and supervise the ticket office staff, maintain a strong relationship with Ticketmaster and serve as liaison between the sales and service departments.
"Bob has proven his value in the Braves organization and we're excited to see him take the next step in his career and join us in Atlanta," states Derek Schiller, Atlanta Braves Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing.
Bob was responsible for all ticket office functions and acted as liaison between the M-Braves and Ticketmaster. A 1991 graduate of The Broadcasting Institute of Maryland with a degree in Radio, Askin worked in radio from 1991 through 2000 while also earning a degree in Business Administration from Furman University in 2000.
Before joining the M-Braves, he served as the Director of Marketing and Promotions at Marshall University where he helped set the Mid-American Conference record for women's basketball attendance with a crowd of 7,017 in December of 2004. He also assisted in the sale of the second-most bowl tickets in school history for the 2004 PlainsCapital Fort Worth Bowl. Bob oversaw a seven percent sales increase for the Thundering Herd men's basketball team that went 6-20.
M-Braves General Manager Steve DeSalvo states, "We are very excited for Bob and very proud of his accomplishments. Bob was one of the key players in getting this new franchise up and running in Mississippi, having the skills and vision to sell seats in a stadium that didn't exist, and the expertise in setting up a normally very difficult seat selection process. Equally as important, this promotion sends a strong message throughout the organization that we not only develop ballplayers for the big leagues, we also develop front office talent to go to âThe Show'."
His replacement in Mississippi will be former intern Nick Anderson. Nick joined the M-Braves prior to the 2009 season and quickly established himself as a reliable source of information and customer service. Askin said of his replacement, "Nick has a greater grasp of Ticketmaster than I had in my first six months with the system. I have the utmost confidence in him going forward. He will be an asset to the Braves and their fans for years to come."
