Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - After trailing 4-1 and failing to record a hit in the first five innings, the Jacksonville Suns offense exploded with an eight-run, seven-hit sixth, including a Tydus Meadows grand slam homerun, propelling the Suns to a 13-5 victory over the Mobile BayBears Sunday at the Baseball Grounds.

The win combined with Montgomery's loss to Chattanooga drops the Jacksonville magic number to clinch the first half division title down to five. Jacksonville has a 7.5 game lead on second place Montgomery with 12 games remaining in the first half. The Suns have now won 13 of their last 14 games.

With the win, Jacksonville manager John Shoemaker won his 200th regular season game as the Suns manager, the sixth Suns manager since 1970 to record over 200 regular season wins in Jacksonville.

After not recording a hit all afternoon, the Suns opened the sixth inning with a Jimmy Rohan walk followed by the first hit of the day from Wilkin Ruan. After a Tony Abreu pop out, Andy LaRoche drew a walk to load the bases with one out. The BayBears then elected to go to the bullpen and pull the starter Roger Deago from the game in favor of Ryan Trytten. The first pitch that Trytten dealt to his first batter Tydus Meadows landed in the grass berm past left field for a go-ahead grand slam homerun, making it a 5-4 Suns lead.

The next three batters singled to load the bases again with one out, and the BayBears brought in Paul Abraham to try to get out of the jam. Abraham issued a wild pitch to plate another Jacksonville run and extend the lead to 6-4. Following a walk to reload the bases, Jimmy Rohan came through with a two-run double and opened up an 8-4 advantage. Wilkin Ruan next singled and drove home another Suns run to make it 9-4.

The offense came after Mobile starter Roger Deago had shut down the best batting team in the Southern League all afternoon. The left-handed Panamanian had not allowed a hit and had walked two while striking out two and left with a 4-1 lead. One pitch later, his decision and the Mobile lead was gone when Meadows hit the grand slam.

Jacksonville added four runs in the eighth for good measure including a two-run triple from catcher A.J. Ellis, a play in which he scored on an error. Meadows also came through again with an RBI double to open a 13-4 lead.

The Mobile offense scored two runs in the first and two more in the fourth inning off of Suns starter Heath Totten. The BayBears added a ninth inning run on reliever Adam Thomas.

Totten improved to 4-2 in the win while Trytten fell to 0-1 in the loss as he gave up the sixth-inning, go-ahead grand slam. Thomas recorded a three inning save, his first of the year.

Jacksonville improved to a Southern League-best 38-20 while Mobile fell to a Southern League-worst 22-35.
