BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Huntsville Stars defeated the Birmingham Barons by the score of 12-4 on Sunday afternoon, June 4th, in Southern League action at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Ron Acuna went 3-for-5 with a triple and six RBI for the Stars (23-33), who concluded the game with 16 hits. Steve Moss (two runs scored) went 3-for-5, as well, while Drew Anderson (2-for-4, two RBI) and Adam Heether (2-for-4) each scored three runs. Huntsville starter Travis Phelps (5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 K) picked up the win to move his record to 1-2. Matt Smith pitched the final three innings for Huntsville to earn his first save of the season.

Micah Schnurstein went 1-for-4 for the Barons (24-34) to extend his current hitting streak to eight games. Birmingham starter Tyler Lumsden (4.0 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 K; now 6-2) suffered just his second setback of the year. Ricardo Nanita went 2-for-5 with a HR (5) and two RBI in the losing effort, as well. Catcher Wally Rosa took the mound for the Barons in the top of the ninth, striking out two in what marked the first pitching appearance of his seven-year career

Birmingham will continue its five-game series with Huntsville on Monday night, June 5th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. RHP Carlos Villanueva (4-4, 3.61 ERA) is listed as the probable starter for the Stars, while LHP Corwin Malone (4-4, 4.42 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for the Barons.
