Montgomery Biscuits News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Chattanooga Lookouts pitcher Jon Coutlangus tagged Montgomery Biscuits third baseman Johnny Raburn out at the plate to end the Biscuits' eighth inning at BellSouth Park Saturday night.

It was his biggest contribution to his team's cause that inning, during which he allowed two runs and nearly let the Biscuits off the mat. The tag, though, left the Biscuits one run shy, and it ended that way, with a 4-3 Lookouts win.

Raburn had tried to score on a Coutlangus pitch that got away from catcher Miguel Perez and skipped to the backstop. But Perez relayed a perfect throw to Coutlangus for the tag and the out. It ended an inning in which Coutlangus walked two and surrendered RBI singles to Raburn and Jorge Cantu. Coutlangus recovered to strike out Michael Coleman and the ball bounced his way on the would-be wild pitch.

For Montgomery, Raburn's slightly-late slide into home was symptomatic of their too-little, too-late rally against the North Division's top team.

The Lookouts had built the lead with nine hits against Montgomery starting pitcher Tony Peguero, who had not given up more all season. They scored a run in the first inning, two in the third and one in the fifth. Peguero left after the sixth inning and took the loss.

The four runs had buried the Biscuits' early tally. Coleman had scored Raburn in the first inning with a single. But the lone run was all Chattanooga starter Tyler Pelland allowed in his seven innings.

Juan Salas pitched the final two innings for the Biscuits, striking out three.

The Biscuits have lost eight of their last nine games and stand at 30-26, dropping back to four games above .500 for the first time since they were 15-11.

The Biscuits try to stop their slide Sunday afternoon at 12:15 Central Time behind righty Jim Magrane (7-3).
