Jackson, TN (June 4th)- Lefty Paul Schappert pitched five solid innings in a spot start on Sunday afternoon, lifting the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx past the Tennessee Smokies 7-1 in game three of a five game series.
Schappert (4-0), who made the start for Bobby Brownlie after Brownlie started last night's game for Carlos Marmol who was called up to Chicago before Saturday night's game, allowed an unearned run on three hits in his five innings of work. Carlos Vasquez, Roberto Sotolongo and Carmen Pignatiello combined to pitch four scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The Diamond Jaxx pitching staff hasn't allowed an earned run in the last twenty-four innings.
Eric Patterson had two hits and two RBI's to lead the Diamond Jaxx offense. Brandon Sing also drove in two runs while Chris Walker and Miguel Negron chipped in with two hits each to lead the Diamond Jaxx seven run, eleven hit attack.
Steven Jackson suffered the loss for the Smokies. Jackson (2-4) allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits in five innings.
Game four of the series takes place on Monday night at 7:05 CDT. Left-hander Chris Shaver (2-3 3.24) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Tennessee will counter with righty Russ Ohlendorf (3-3 2.64).
