THE LAST GAME- The Lookouts survived a scare in the late innings, but hold on to win, 4-3. David Shafer came in and shut the Biscuits down in the ninth, earning his 16th save of the season.
The Biscuits didn't wait to get their offense going, as the scored a run in the first with the help of three straight singles. The Lookouts came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Chris Dickerson led off with a single through the hole at shortstop, and then stole second. Dickerson then advanced to third on a failed pick off attempt. Joey Votto singled to score Dickerson.
Chattanooga got two more runs in the bottom of the third. Dewayne Wise, who was added to the roster today from extended spring training, reached after drilling a line drive back to the pitcher. Joey Votto followed with a single of his own, moving Wise to second. Votto then moved to second on a Noochie Varner ground out. Javier Colina the smoked a two run single to bring the score to 3-1 in favor of the good guys. The Looks came up with another run in the bottom of the fifth. Varner led the inning off with a double and then scored on an Anderson Machado RBI single.
The Biscuits made a late inning charge as the scored two runs in the eighth off of Lookouts reliever Jon Coutlangus. Montgomery was able to score the two runs on two singles and a walk. They could not, however, manage to score the tying run.
Lookouts starter Tyler Pelland improved his record to 4-1 after another stellar outing. He went seven innings and allowed one run on six hits, while striking out six. Biscuits starting pitcher Tony Peguero took the loss after allowing four runs, all earned, on nine hits in six innings of work. His record is now 5-6.
PROBABLE STARTER: RHP Steve Kelly will get the start this afternoon for the Lookouts. In 11 starts this season, Kelly is 6-3 with a 6.13 ERA. His six wins currently ranks him second in the league. In 60.1 innings this season, he has allowed 28 runs, 21 earned, on 62 hits, while walking 21 and striking out 46. The league is batting .271 against him. In his last start on 5/30, Kelly suffered his third loss of the season after going 6.0 innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits. In 2005 with AAA Louisville, Kelly went 5-5 with a 4.82 ERA in 19 starts. In 2004 with Chattanooga, Kelly finished the season ranked second in wins with 12 in the Reds Organization and Southern League. Kelly was the Reds fourth round draft-pick in 2001.
The Biscuits will send RHP Jim Magrane to the hill for his 12th start of the season. Magrane currently tops Southern League Pitchers in wins, with a 7-3 record. In 67.1 innings of work, he has posted a 2.94 ERA, while allowing 23 runs, 22 earned, on 58 hits. Magrane has allowed 22 walks, struck out 40, and the league is batting .240 against him.

- LHP Phil Dumatrait was promoted to AAA Louisville on 6/3/06.
- Outfielder Dewayne Wise has been added to the Lookouts roster. Wise has been at extended spring training camp since injuring his ankle. Wise has 147 MLB games under his belt with Toronto and Atlanta. In 296 career at-bats in the Major Leagues, he batted .203, with 41 runs scored, 60 hits, 13 2B's, five triples, nine home runs, 30 RBI, and 14 stolen bases.

1974 - Ten cent beer night is not a great idea: Hall of Fame umpire Nestor Chylak called a forfeit in favor of the Texas Rangers when an unruly crowd of 25,134 in Cleveland had consumed an estimate of more than 60,000 cups of beer at Municipal Stadium. At the time of the forfeit, the game was in the bottom of the ninth inning, tied 5-5.
1978 - The Baltimore Orioles selected an 18 year-old high school senior in the second round of the free agent draft. Pitcher-outfielder Cal Ripken, Jr., was 7-2 with a 0.70 ERA and hit .492 in nearby Aberdeen, Maryland
1986 - Barry Bonds of Pittsburgh cracked his first major league home run. The Pirates topped the Atlanta Braves, 12-3. He is one of only four major league players who have hit 600 or more home runs.
