JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (14-16) defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (11-20) 5-4 in the first of five games Monday afternoon from Bragan Field.

Suns starter Austin Brice (W, 1-3) lasted five innings and surrendered two earned runs on two hits while walking six and striking out four. Keyvius Sampson (L, 1-1) in his start for Pensacola, manufactured six frames allowing three earned runs on seven hits while walking a batter and striking out seven. Sean Donatello (S, 9) earned his Southern League leading ninth save of the year tossing 1 and 2/3 innings surrendering one earned run on two hits (one home run).

The scoring would begin in the top of the first after Kyle Waldrop's RBI infield single brought home Ryan Wright to give the Wahoos a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the opening frame, Jacksonville responding with two runs courtesy of Matt Juengel's RBI ground-rule double with two runners aboard, and Viosergy Rosa's run-scoring groundout, leaped the Suns to a 2-1 scoreboard advantage through one inning of play.

The fourth inning saw Viosergy Rosa (HR, 2) power his second home run over the right field wall to give the Suns a 3-1 lead.

Sliding to the fifth, Pensacola would get back-to-back walks, and a few batters later with runners now on second and third; Marquez Smith provided a sacrifice fly to cut Suns lead to 3-2.

In the seventh, Zack Cox (HR, 3) stepped to the plate against BayBears reliever Chad Rogers, and powered a solo home run to give the Suns a 4-2 lead.

The top of the eighth crept the Wahoos to within a run after Waldrop scored via a Juan Perez RBI sacrifice fly to left.

Flashing to the eighth David Adams ripped a double with one out, to then be knocked in two batters later by Sharif Othman's run-scoring two-bagger swelling Jacksonville's advantage to 5-3.

In a last ditch effort for the Wahoos in the ninth, against Suns closer Donatello, Beau Amaral (HR, 1) sent a solo shot into the bleachers in right field cutting the Suns lead to 5-4.
