KODAK, Tenn. - The Biscuits (14-17) were shutout for only the second time this season in a 4-0 series-opening loss to the Tennessee Smokies (16-14) Monday night at Smokies Park.

The Biscuits went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position while the Biscuits stranded nine on base in the loss. The Biscuits had runners in scoring position in four of the last five innings but were unable to score while being held to six hits. Joey Rickard had half of Montgomery's hits with a 3-for-3 night.

The Smokies scored in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Albert Almora walked then moved all the way to third on a throwing error by Jamie Schult (4-1). Kyle Schwarber then grounded out to plate the first run of the game. Stephen Bruno made it 2-0 with an RBI-single in the sixth. The Smokies added two more with back-to-back home runs from Dan Vogelbach and Willson Contreras in the eighth.

The Biscuits will look to snap their four-game losing streak on Tuesday with a scheduled double-header. LHP Jimmy Patterson will get the start against RHP Frank Bautista in game one of the twin-bill. Then LH Blake Snell head to the mound for the Biscuits in game two. He will be countered by RHP Corey Black. First pitches are scheduled for 10:30 am and 6:05 pm CT.
