Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - It was a good homecoming for Jackson, as the Generals returned to West Tennessee and opened their five-game series with the Biloxi Shuckers with an 8-3 win Monday night. Jackson got 5.1 fantastic innings of relief from James Gillheeney and seven extra-base hits from its offense.

Danny Hultzen made his second start for Jackson (12-16), giving up two runs on four hits in 2.2 innings for the Generals. After two scoreless innings, Biloxi (18-13) gave the lefty some trouble in the third. He gave up an RBI single to Nick Ramirez and an RBI triple to Michael Reed in consecutive at-bats. He was taken out after walking Biloxi's Taylor Green.

He was replaced by James Gillheeney, who pitched excellently in relief. Gillheeney (3-1, 1.98) threw 93 pitches over 5.1 innings, giving up just one run on four hits to earn his team-leading third win of the season.

Jackson's offense backed up Gillheeney with 12 hits on the night. Seven of Jackson's nine starters had a hit in the game, led by three from reigning Southern League Player of the Week Tyler Smith (3-for-5, 2B, 2 R). Smith started things off with a double in the bottom of the first inning. He came in to score the Generals' first run on a sac fly by Dario Pizzano.

Jackson wasted no time getting another run on the board. Jordy Lara led off the second with a home run off of Biloxi's Brooks Hall (4-1, 2.19) to make it 2-0. It was Lara's second home run in the past week.

The Generals got to Hall for two more runs in the third inning. After Jack Reinheimer doubled to lead off the inning, Dario Pizzano made history with an RBI triple to right field. The triple gave the Jackson outfielder a franchise record 21- game hit streak, breaking the prior mark of 20 games set by Jeff Frazier with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in 2007. Pizzano scored later on a Biloxi error to make it 4-2 after the Shuckers had scored twice off of Hultzen in the top of the inning.

Biloxi's Brooks Hall suffered his first loss of the season, giving up four runs on five hits in three innings of work. It was the first time in 2015 that the Shuckers' righty had failed to go five innings in a start.

Jackson was no kinder to Biloxi's bullpen, scoring four more runs in the contest. D.J. Peterson doubled in Dario Pizzano in the fifth inning to make it 5-2. Two frames later, shortstop Jack Reinheimer crushed his first Double-A home run over the left-field fence. Reinheimer's two-run blast followed a Smith single, making it 7-3.

The Generals added a run on Dan Paolini's RBI single in the eighth. Jackson's eight extra-base hits (four doubles, two triples, two home runs) tied a season-high set a week ago in the team's 15-4 win over Biloxi.

The five-game series continues on Tuesday night as Jackson goes for a second-straight win over the Shuckers. The Generals will send Misael Siverio (1-2, 4.15) to the mound against another four-game winner for Biloxi in righty Tyler Wagner (4-0, 1.50). First pitch from The Ballpark at Jackson is set for 7:05 pm CT, and you can catch all the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) starting at 6:50 pm with the Tennessee Army National Guard Pregame Show.
