Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, California - The Fresno Grizzlies (9-3) conquered the Visalia Rawhide (1-11) 6-2 Sunday afternoon from Chukchansi Park. The victory propelled the Grizzlies to their sixth straight home win and gave them a series sweep of the Rawhide.
Fresno starter Mike Ruff (3-0) enjoyed the win after five solid frames of work. The Florida Atlantic product struck out nine, a career-high. Dugan Darnell was the next arm up. Darnell punched out three and retired all six batters he faced. Stephen Jones and Juan Mejia also provided a spark for the bullpen, combining for two innings of help and three strikeouts.
Daniel Montano and Zac Veen highlighted the Grizzlies offense. Montano supplied a pair of hits and RBI with the big knock coming in the fifth. Veen added a double, two runs and three stolen bases. The Rockies top prospect stole second, third and home, giving him 10 swiped bags on the season. Veen's steal of home came in the third inning.
On the other side of the diamond, Visalia tallied six hits. AJ Vukovich led the way with a pair of rips while Ronny Simon collected two RBI from a triple to right field. Reliever Emmanuel De Jesus Acosta (0-1) grieved the decision after following starter Liam Norris, who exited the contest in the fourth. Both squads are back in action Tuesday with Fresno facing the San Jose Giants.
