Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
EAU CLAIRE, WI - Chris Sujka's (Indiana) two-run third inning home run was the difference, as the Battle Creek Bombers won its second straight over Eau Claire, 4-3.
Battle Creek opened the scoring in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Jeremy Shay (Bowling Green) and an RBI single by Casey Yocum (LSU). Sujka's blast to left center, scoring Sikes Orvis (Ole Miss) in front of him, made it a 4-0 game in the third.
Eau Claire responded with two in its half of the third and one in the fourth, but there would be no more scoring in the ballgame.
Dan Tyson (Northwestern) pitched five and two-thirds solid innings, giving up just three runs in his first start. He did not walk a man and struck out five. The bullpen was terrific, as Ethan Bramschreiber (Northwestern), Brian Heldman (Arkansas), and Alex Tukey (Minnesota) combined to pitch three and one-third hitless frames. The three pitchers did not walk a man and struck out six. Tukey earned his third save in as many opportunities.
Colin Willis (Purdue North Central) had three hits out of the number nine hole to raise his batting average to .317.
The Bombers go for the sweep of the Express tomorrow night. Brian Valente (Eastern Michigan) will start for Battle Creek. First pitch is 7:35 ET.
