Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - June 26, 2012. The Madison Mallards (11-16) return to the "Duck Pond" to play the second game of a three game series against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (13-13). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.

On Monday the Mallards couldn't hold onto a 4-1 lead, falling to the Woodchucks in the series opener 9-5. Mallards starter Trevor Foss (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) was handled by the Woodchucks lineup, getting tagged for eight runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings. The offensive explosion by the Woodchucks nullified Mallards right fielder Tyler Marincov's (North Florida) sixth home run of the season, which leads the Northwoods League.

Looking to even up the series for the Mallards is right-hander Brandon Barker (Mercer).

In his last start Barker (0-3) was the hard luck loser, giving up one earned run on five hits while striking out six in a 3-2 loss to the Green Bay Bullfrogs (16-10). Barker has settled down considerably since his first time out in which he gave up seven runs in 3.1 innings against the La Crosse Loggers (19-7), lowering his ERA in his last three starts.

On the hill for the Woodchucks is right-hander Alex Vetter (Feather River). Vetter (0-1) is undoubtedly one of the more sizeable pitchers the Mallards have faced this season, coming in at 6'6" and weighing 210 pounds. In his last time out Vetter threw 5.0 innings, giving up two runs on six hits in an 8-7 loss to the Lakeshore Chinooks (13-13).

Mallards outfielder Jack Livingston (Northwestern) is beginning to heat up, hitting .333 in his past four games. Getting him to fully utilize his power hitting abilities that he showed at Northwestern could add another dimension to the Mallards offense.

Marincov has homered in bunches this season, four of his six home runs have come in back to back games.

The Mallards will finish off their three game series with the Woodchucks tomorrow, June 27th at the "Duck Pond". That night will be Twilight Night at the ballpark. Fans will get the chance to meet Alex Meraz who played "Paul" in the blockbuster film.

The 2012 season is upon us! Single-game tickets are on-sale for all Mallards home games!

The Madison Mallards are part of the 16-team Northwoods League. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
