Alexandria Beetles News Release

Rochester, MN - After the Alexandria Beetles fell behind the Rochester Honkers 3-1 in the second inning, Ben Moore and Jimmy Pickens hit solo homeruns in the fourth and sixth respectively to bring the visitors level.

But the Honkers (12-15) scored seven unanswered runs to take control in the late innings and held off the Beetles (9-18) 10-5 to sweep a mini two game set.

Rochester starter Chris Noble earned his second win of the season, both against Alexandria, going six strong innings while Mitchell Babb was handed the loss in relief.

Alexandria jumped on the board first with a Johnny Tolson solo-shot in the opening inning and Beetle starter Scott Sanderson sent the Honkers down 1-2-3. But Rochester sent seven to the plate in the second, putting up a three-spot, with five hits including a homerun from Trevor Podratz and three consecutive singles by the bottom third in the lineup.

Moore led off the fourth with his third homerun to tie for the team lead only to watch Pickens regain sole possession with his fourth of the year to lead off the sixth.

But the Honkers bounced right back in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead on the back of a hit batter and two walks. Rochester added three more in the seventh and three again in the eighth off the Beetle bullpen to take firm control.

Alexandria tacked on a pair with two singles and a walk in the ninth but could not challenge Rochester who has won all five matchups with the Beetles in the first half this year.

The Beetles return to the field with a 1:05 CDT start against the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Wednesday from Knute Nelson. Jon Reed (2-1) will throw for Alexandria against Kacy Kemmer (1-2).
