Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV - June 3, 2015) - The West Virginia Power shutout the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-0 in the series finale at Appalachian Power Park. Michael Suchy tallied three hits to lead the Power offense while Yeudy Garcia continued to dazzle on the mound in the victory.
Both teams were quiet in the first three innings but West Virginia cracked the run column with a two-run fourth. Jordan Luplow led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Michael Suchy. Following a sacrifice bunt by Jerrick Suiter, Chase Simpson pulled a two-run double to left-center to plate Luplow and Suchy, giving West Virginia a 2-0 lead.
The Power tallied their final run of the game in the sixth. Luplow pulled a double to left and scored moments later when Suchy blasted his third hit of the day, a double off the right field wall.
Garcia (4-3) earned the win following five-innings of one-hit ball. The right hander, who had a 1.01 ERA in May, struck out six and walked one. In relief of Garcia was Jose Regalado who struck out three over three shutout innings of work. Junior Lopez notched his fourth save with a clean ninth. Grasshoppers starter Michael Mader (3-6) suffered the loss.
Tyler Filliben extended his on-base streak to 17 games with a leadoff single in the third. The on-base streak by Filliben is the longest among all active hitters.
