Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Rain and shaky defense made Wednesday's series finale between the Greenville Drive (31-22) and the Kannapolis Intimidators (26-27) a sloppy affair, but the Intimidators used a pair of late runs to win the game 5-3 and clinch a victory in the three-game series.
Kannapolis scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to break a 3-3 tie. Christian Stringer lined a one-out triple to the right field corner in the eighth, and Louie Lechich's RBI groundout plated him. The next inning, Mason Robbins doubled, moved to third on a single by Ryan Leonards and came in on a double play.
Brad Salgado (1-3) got the win for Kannapolis, and Michael Gunn (0-1) was stuck with the loss. David Trexler spun two shutout innings to earn his fourth save.
Both starters kept their teams in the game and left with no-decisions. Reed Reilly delivered a quality start for the Drive, giving up two earned runs over six innings with four hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Yelmison Peralta allowed only an unearned run in five innings for Kannapolis.
The Intimidators struck for a run in the top of the first when Eddy Alvarez drew a leadoff walk and later scored on Lechich's single to center. A pair of Drive errors in the third made the score 2-0 in favor of Kannapolis.
The Drive got on the board in the fifth when Joseph Monge reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch.
A sixth-inning solo homer by Brett Austin tacked on a third run for Kannapolis, and the Drive came back to score twice in the seventh to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Jordan Procyshen grounded into a fielder's choice that scored two runs when Mauricio Dubon hustled home all the way from second base after Monge scored the first run.
From here, the Drive hit the road to begin a four-game series with the Savannah Sand Gnats, affiliate of the New York Mets. First pitch on Thursday night in Savannah is at 7:05. LH Dedgar Jimenez (3-2, 3.90) takes the ball in the opener for the Drive, and the Sand Gnats will start RH Martires Arias (3-3, 3.66).
