Guerrero, Olacio Earn Promotion to Dash

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 3, 2015) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted left-handed pitchers Jordan Guerrero and Jefferson Olacio to the Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem Dash today. Guerrero, who has led the Intimidators pitching staff going 6-1 with a 2.28 ERA in nine games (nine starts), earns his first promotion to the Dash while Olacio returns to the Carolina League, where he opened his 2015 campaign. In corresponding moves, the Intimidators receive right-handed pitcher Zach Thompson from Extended Spring Training.

Guerrero, who turned 21 on Sunday, has been one of the best pitchers in Minor League Baseball over the first two months of 2015. The two-time SAL Pitcher of the Week (April 9-19 and May 11-17) is ranks second in the South Atlantic League in strikeouts (60), tied for second in the league in wins and WHIP (0.94), ranks third in the league in average (.214), fourth in innings pitched (55.1), and ninth in ERA. The Intimidators' Opening Day starter put together a streak of 20.0 consecutive scoreless innings from May 4-22. Twice this season, Guerrero has struck out double-digits, including a career-high 11 over 6.0 innings on April 15 at Delmarva in the second game of a doubleheader. The White Sox selected Guerrero in the 15th round of the June 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Moorpark (Calif.) High School. Guerrero spent his first two professional seasons with Advanced Rookie Bristol in 2012 and 2013 before joining Kannapolis in late April 2014. Last year with the Intimidators, he went 6-2 with a 3.46 ERA in 27 games (nine starts), including a 4-0 record and 2.65 ERA in 18 relief appearances.

Olacio, 21, appeared in five games with Kannapolis this season, going 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA (6 ER/5 IP) with two saves in three chances. The 6'7", 295-pound pitcher spun a perfect ninth inning on May 31 to secure an Intimidators win at Hagerstown for his second save of the year. He opened the season with Winston-Salem, going 0-0 with a 13.50 ERA (4 ER/2.2 IP) after splitting his 2014 campaign between the Dash and Double-A Birmingham, going 0-5 with a 4.99 ERA (39 ER/70.1 IP) and 71 strikeouts in 38 games (four starts).

Thompson, 21, posted a 3.27 ERA (16 ER/44 IP) in his professional debut with Advanced Rookie Great Falls in 2014, going 2-3 in 11 games (11 starts). The White Sox selected him in the fifth round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Texas in Arlington. The 6'7", 215-pound right-hander is from the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, graduating from Grace Preparatory Academy in Arlington, Texas.

Kannapolis wraps up a three-game series against the Greenville Drive tonight (Wednesday) at 7:05 p.m. when RHP Yelmison Peralta (2-4, 8.01 ERA) faces Greenville's RHP Reed Reilly (3-2, 4.17 ERA) in the series rubber match. The Intimidators return home on Thursday, June 4, for a four-game series against Delmarva at Intimidators Stadium presented by Carolinas HealthCare System.
