Arkansas Travelers News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - The Arkansas Travelers scored four runs in the seventh inning to top the Corpus Christi Hooks 4-2 on Friday night at Whataburger Field.
Trailing 2-0, 1B Brian Hernandez and DH Raywilly Gomez started the seventh with singles. After CF Kentrail Davis reached on a sac/throwing error by LHP Josh Hader, the Hooks turned to their bullpen and summonsed RHP Aaron West. With the bases loaded, LF D'Arby Myers lined the first pitch West threw into right field for a game-tying two-run single. With two outs and runners on the corners, 2B Sherman Johnson doubled down the right field line to put Arkansas up 4-2.
Travs starter RHP Albert Suarez (W, 6-3) continued his recent mastery with six more strong innings on Friday. Suarez allowed the two runs, but only one was earned, on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Suarez is 5-0 over his last six starts.
RHP Eduard Santos worked a 1-2-3 seventh with two strikeouts and LHP Chris O'Grady (S, 3) earned a two-inning save with a pair of perfect innings. O'Grady struck out three and lowered his ERA to 1.16.
Johnson finished 2-for-4 with the two RBIs and Hernandez also went 2-for -4.
Travs catcher Zach Wright picked off LF Danry Vasquez at first and threw out 2B Tony Kemp attempting to steal second. Wright improved his caught stealing percentage to a studly .464 (13-of-28) and now has five pickoffs on the season.
With a San Antonio walk-off win over Northwest Arkansas, the Travs moved to within 2.5 games of the Naturals in the Texas League North Division. Arkansas (30-23) will take on Corpus Christi (35-18) for the middle game of the three game series on Saturday at Whataburger Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
