Frisco RoughRiders News Release
TULSA, OKLAHOMA (June 6, 2015) - The Tulsa Drillers held the Frisco RoughRiders to three hits and snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-0 win Saturday night. Eric Stults, making his first Double-A start since 2005, earned the victory throwing five shutout innings for the Drillers. Stults has spent parts of nine seasons in the Major Leagues including eight starts for the Atlanta Braves this season.
Tulsa scored a run in the first inning on a pair of miscues. Luis Mateo hit a one out double, and later advanced to third base on a wild pitch from Jake Thompson before scoring on catcher Jorge Alfaro's errant throw. Mateo advanced two bases on the sequence and Alfaro was charged with his fourth error.
Jarek Cunningham led of the fourth inning with a triple to right, and scored Tulsa's second run on a Lars Anderson RBI ground out. Then in the eighth inning, the duo struck again, this time Anderson doubled home Cunningham and the Drillers held a commanding 3-0 lead.
Thompson (5-4) lost the second of back-to-back starts against Tulsa. Last Sunday, the right hander dealt eight innings of one-run ball en route to his third straight win. Thompson lasted seven innings on Saturday, but was the tough-luck loser with no run support. Thompson allowed seven hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out seven Drillers.
Nick Williams recorded his eighth outfield assist in the sixth inning when he gunned down Anderson trying to score from first on Shawn Zarraga's double. Frisco hit into three double plays on Saturday and only twice had a runner reach third base.
The rubber match takes place on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. with Chad Bell (1-6) opposing Chris Anderson (4-4). The RoughRiders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on June 9 for a four-game homestand against San Antonio. The team will host a "Full House Night" with special uniforms depicting scenes from the classic '90s sitcom on Friday, June 12.
