Fuenmayor, Selman Selected as Players of the Month by Royals

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Kansas City Royals announced their organizational Players of the Month for May and they have selected 1B Balbino Fuenmayor and LHP Sam Selman as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals honorees.

Balbino Fuenmayor, whom has already claimed the Texas League Player of the Month honor for May, had a month to remember and adds another accolade by being awarded as the Naturals' Player of the Month by the Kansas City Royals. Fuenmayor was spectacular all throughout May as he led the Texas League in batting average (.391), runs scored (21), hits (45), extra-base hits (19), total bases (80), slugging percentage (.696) and OPS (1.114).

During month of May, Fuenmayor went hit-less just three times, and logged two or more hits in 16 of the 28 games, including a stretch of six straight multi-hit games. Fuenmayor also had his power on display as he hit eight (8) home runs and had 22 RBI, good for second among all Texas League hitters in May.

LHP Sam Selman received the honor as the Naturals' Pitcher of the Month for May. The left-handed reliever had a terrific month out of the Naturals bullpen as he went 1-0 with a minuscule 0.79 ERA in eight (8) games and 11.1 innings of work. In those 11.1 innings, Selman only allowed one (1) run on 10 hits with three (3) walks and an astounding 18 strikeouts 

Northwest Arkansas continues their road trip tonight in San Antonio. Left-hander Jonathan Dziedzic (2-3, 3.38 ERA) features the Texas League's 10th lowest ERA and hopes to even up the series against the Missions at a game apiece. He will do battle with right-hander Brian Hernandez (3-7, 3.91 ERA) of San Antonio in the 7:05 p.m. start.
