Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - In the wake of his walk-off home run Tuesday, C.J. Stubbs delivered a two-out RBI single in the ninth inning Wednesday night as the Hooks prevailed in a back-and-forth, 8-7 win over Midland at Whataburger Field.
Corpus Christi has won eight of its last 12 games.
Following game-tying, two-run blasts by the RockHounds in the eighth and ninth, Jordan Brewer started the rally with a one-out single through the left side for his second hit of the day. Chad Stevens then worked a walk before a flyout put the contest on the brink of extras. Stubbs responded by smacking the first pitch he saw into center field, scoring Brewer to secure the Hooks' fifth walk-off win and their third against Midland.
Corpus Christi's 12-hit attack featured four home runs: two-run clouts from Kenedy Corona and Joey Loperfido, as well as solo homers by Drew Gilbert and Luis Aviles Jr.
Aaron Brown turned in a fine start for the Hooks as he scattered five hits and one walk while striking out six in five innings. The two runs were unearned against Brown, who has authored a 1.67 ERA over his last eight games (five starts).
Diosmerky Taveras, activated from the injured list Wednesday, struck out five over two perfect innings.
