Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - From the nine-hole, C.J. Stubbs played pepper with the left field berm Thursday night, clubbing home runs in consecutive at-bats to lead the Hooks to an 8-2 win over the Missions at Wolff Stadium.
Corpus Christi has won five in a row and six of its last seven games.
The Hooks benefited from an early lead as the club struck for three first-inning runs against Henry Henry. Quincy Hamilton drew a walk with Shay Whitcomb and Will Wagner notching doubles. Alex McKenna completed the rally with a two-out RBI single into center.
The support was more than enough for Misael Tamarez, who held the Missions to a Jorge Ona solo home run over five innings of work. Tamarez struck out seven against three hits and one walk.
Hamilton plated two in the fourth via a bases-loaded line drive single into left, helping the Hooks to a 5-1 lead.
Stubbs made it 6-1 in the sixth with a laser to left that exited the bat at 111 MPH. He then belted a two-run bomb in the eighth on an 0-2 pitch from Alek Jacob.
Stubbs, having gone deep in each of his last three games, has hit eight home runs in 29 Double-A assignments.
Jonathan Sprinkle stranded two in the San Antonio sixth and Freylin Garcia recorded a 1-2-3 seventh before running into trouble in the eighth.
The first four reached base in the Missions rally thanks to two walks and two singles. Devin Conn put out the fire by dispatching three consecutive Missions upon entering the fray. Conn struck out the first two in the sequence on seven pitches.
