Frisco RoughRiders News Release
AMARILLO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders bashed their way to a back-and-forth, 16-10 win over the Amarillo Sod Poodles on Wednesday night from HODGETOWN. Blaine Crim led the way for Frisco with three hits, five RBIs and two of the Riders six home runs on the night.
The Riders (29-23, 65-56) scored first without the aid of a home run when Jonathan Ornelas led off the game with a single, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Justin Foscue to make it 1-0.
Amarillo (27-25, 59-62) then countered with a three-run inning in the third to take the lead. Two runs came across on a sacrifice bunt plus a throwing error on Ornelas at third base before Leandro Cedeno hit an RBI single to center to put the Sod Poodles up 3-1.
Frisco then volleyed back in the top of the fourth with a power display. Aaron Zavala started the frame with a solo home run, his third of the season with Frisco and his 14th overall. After a Foscue walk, Crim cracked a two-run shot and then Luisangel Acuna and Trevor Hauver followed up with solo shots as the Riders went back-to-back-to-back for the first time this season. That gave the Riders a 6-3 advantage.
It was Acuna's 11th of the season (third with the RoughRiders) and Hauver's 15th of the year (second with Frisco).
Following a Jorge Barrosa solo home run for Amarillo in the fifth, Crim answered with his second blast of the night, a solo shot that was his 18th of the year, to bring the lead back to three at 7-4 in the sixth.
Amarillo then plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-7 lead, but Frisco mirrored their scoring with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh to nab the lead back. Two runs came in on a bunt single from Ornelas combined with a throwing error on Amarillo catcher Nick Dalesandro before a Crim fielder's choice plated his fourth of five RBIs, making it 10-8 Frisco.
Ti'Quan Forbes tied the game for Amarillo in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single, but the RoughRiders again had an answer. Zavala laced a go-ahead single before a run scored on an error and Hauver coxed a bases-loaded walk to increase the advantage to 13-10.
Frisco then tacked one when a run scored on a second throwing error by the catcher Dalesandro in the ninth coupled with a two-run home run from Foscue, pushing the lead to 16-10.
Triston Polley (3-1) earned the win for Frisco, striking out four over 1.2 innings in relief. Kyle Backhus (0-1) took the loss for Amarillo, allowing three runs, two earned, out of the bullpen in an inning of work.
The RoughRiders collected 17 hits and had six players record multi-hit games. With a Midland loss on Wednesday, the Riders captured sole possession of first place in the Texas League South Division for the first time in the second half with 16 games remaining.
The RoughRiders and Sod Poodles meet for game three of the six-game series on Thursday, September 1st at 6:05 p.m. from HODGETOWN. LHP Cody Bradford (8-6, 5.15) gets the start for Frisco against RHP Jamison Hill (0-0, 22.50).
Frisco returns home to begin their final home stand of the regular season on Tuesday, September 6th with an 11:05 a.m. start on an Olsson Education Day at Riders Field.
