Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack wrapped their 3-in-3 weekend on Sunday afternoon when they welcomed the rival London Knights. The scoreboard read 8-3 for the Knights as the buzzer went, but it was not an indication of how the game went.

It was a rough start for the Attack, as fell behind early, when the Knights took a 1-0 lead just a minute into the action on the power play. Owen Sound though has spent much of the past few games steeling their nervous and showing great resolve when trailing, and they did just that Sunday afternoon.

It was Stepan Machacek who banged home a rebound opportunity on the Attack third power play of the opening period, that evened the game with just over five minutes left in the frame. Owen Sound then took the lead in the final minutes, when Nick Porco jumped on a turnover and broke away for a shorthanded chance. The overage forward potted his second shorthanded goal in as many games, to give the Attack a 2-1 lead heading into intermission. The goal was also Porco's 50th of his OHL career.

The Attack came out hungry in the second, as they successfully killed off the final second of a penalty, before going on the offence and pressuring the Knights. Unfortunately, the Attack were unable to find the back of the net, having a handful of chances either turned away by Knights' goalie Brett Brochu, or having the puck trick just past empty nets.

London would take the fortunate bounces and turn the tide, evening the score just over five minutes into the period. The Knights would keep the momentum and retake the one goal lead just three minutes later, before adding a fourth late in the period.

The Attack would press in the third, but also had to rely on goalie Nick Chenard who came up with some key saves to keep his team within striking distance.

As time wound down though, the Knights would add an insurance goal via empty net, before Cedrick Guidon would pull the Attack back to within two, with over two minutes remaining on the clock. Any hope of a comeback was crushed shortly after however, when Luke Evangelista added his second empty netter to make it 6-3.

London would a pair more before time expired, making the score read a lot more lopsided than the game actually was.

Owen Sound will now hit the road, as they travel to Erie for at least one game, as board crossing restrictions may play a part in how long the Attack are gone. A return to the Bayshore will come Saturday night, as the Attack start a stretch of seven straight home games.
