Owen Sound Attack News Release

Maybe it was the 500 screaming fans inside the Bayshore, or the fact that the Guelph Storm were playing their third game in as many nights. Regardless, it was an impressive third period by the Owen Sound Attack, who scored three unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes to claim a 4-3 victory.

It was the second time in as many nights, that the Attack snatched victory from the Storm, as they scored twice in just 37 seconds Friday night to pick up a 2-1 win in Guelph.

That game was nothing like Saturday night, as the flow was choppy with a combined 15 power play opportunities. On Saturday, the teams played over 15 minutes straight of 5-on-5 hockey before a penalty was called.

It was just after the Storm had opened the scoring, as Ben McFarlane buried a rebound chance in front. As Attack rookie Colby Barlow headed to the penalty box for hooking, the Storm were looking to cash-in on the man advantage. Owen Sound however, picked up where they left off from Friday night, as they stymied the Storm power play. The Attack would go a perfect 4-for-4 on the PK, including a 5 minute major penalty kill. This included a shorthanded marker from Nick Porco, as he buried a breakaway opportunity, after blocking a shot at his own blue line. The shorthanded goal was just the second of the year for the Attack, and came at a timely manner, as the Storm had built a two goal lead just minutes before.

Guelph would regain their two goal advantage just as Stepan Machacek had stepped out of the penalty box, with under five minutes left in the second period.

Owen Sound has made a habit of sticking in games and pushing opponents right to the last buzzer, and Saturday night saw just that. It start just under three minutes into the final period, when Logan LeSage sped down the right wing, and ripped a shot past Storm goalie Owen Bennett, to once again bring the Attack to within a goal.

To this point over the last two contests, the teams had combined to go 0-for-20 on the power play, that was until the Attack's second man advantage of the game. It was leading goal scorer Deni Goure, who wasted little time after the face off, before ripping a shot glove side past Bennett from the left face-off circle.

It was then Attack rookie Colby Barlow, who keeps climbing the franchise scoring chart for 16 year old goal scorers, as he netted his 14th of the year, after throwing the puck toward the net. The shot fooled Bennett and gave Owen Sound their first lead with less than four minutes to play.

Nick Chenard got the start again for the Attack, and provided solid goaltending, while not being overly tested. Over the two games Chenard allowed just four goals, and watched as his team spent just over four minutes with the lead across both contests.

The Attack will conclude their 3-in-3 weekend Sunday afternoon when they welcome the London Knights. This will be the first meeting between the teams since late November, as Owen Sound continues to look for their first win of the season over the rival Knights.
