Brantford Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The Bulldogs finished their back-to-back home stretch this weekend facing off against The Peterborough Petes and former teammate Jonathan Melee. The Bulldogs looked to capitalize on the momentum gained from last night's nail bitter against Mississauga.

The first period didn't start off the way the Bulldogs planned with Artem Guryev laying a massive hit to the head of Jan Mysak, sending the Bulldogs top line center down the tunnel, and leaving the Bulldogs short their leading goal-scorer for the start of the 5-minute major power-play. With the major expiring and the Bulldogs with a 7-second 5-on-3, Mysak made his return to play winning the faceoff to Avery Hayes who in turn fed Ryan Winterton who can't be stopped right now and scored his 6th goal of the season at 5:24. With the Bulldogs capitalizing on the momentum earned from the goal they were able to take control of the play to keep the Petes at bay with Matteo Drobac stopping all 6 shots he faced in the opening frame heading to the locker room up 1-0.

Right of the hop the Bulldogs took control of the second frame with George Diaco stopping the Petes with a neutral zone steal to then walk through Petes defense sending the puck to Winterton who recorded his second goal of the game and 7th of the season at :45 seconds. The first line of the Bulldogs couldn't be stopped with Gavin White sending Diaco through the slot to find Mysak waiting at the backdoor to get his 25th of the season at 4:19 to gain the 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs outburst continued on the penalty kill, sending the puck down the ice Arber Xhekaj saw the opportunity to jump into the play and rocket a top of the left circle slap shot past Liam Sztuska to score his 8th goal of the season and 1st shorthanded as a Bulldog at 17:00. With 1 minute left Cole Brown hit George Diaco in the right corner and with Patrick Thomas driving the net, Diaco sent the puck his way, banking it off his skate for his 3rd of the season at 18:59. With 9.5 seconds left, Nathan Staios made his way to the board for his 8th of the season from the pass of Thomas and Lucas Moore and the Bulldogs ended the second period with a commanding 6-0 lead.

The third period the Bulldogs took control once again and spent the majority of the final frame in the Petes end. Peterborough wouldn't go quietly though and Chase Stillman broke Matteo Drobac's shutout with a top shelf goal at 5:32. The Bulldogs found a bit more life in their legs after a couple of classic, bone-jarring hip checks from defenseman Artem Grushnikiov. With the clock ticking under 4 minutes left the Petes were able to claw one closer with Tucker Robertson banking a shot off a Bulldogs defender in to make it 6-2. The Bulldogs juggled the lines with the lead in the final frame and found a response with Cole Brown sending an aerial pass to Jan Mysak that the Dogs' leading goal scorer would bunt out of mid-air for his second goal of the game at 17:11. Jax Dubois would pull one closer at 18:04 but that was as close as the Petes would get. The Bulldogs finished strong by winning 7-3, having scored 27 total goals in their last 3 meetings with the Petes and pushing to within one point of top spot in the East division with their 5th straight win.

The Hamilton Bulldogs are headed to Mississauga Tuesday Night to face off against the Steelheads at 7:00 pm at the Paramount Fine Foods Center.
