Strong Start for the Lancers Enough to Take Down Sioux Falls on Military Appreciation Night

OMAHA, NE. - The Sioux Falls Stampede paid a visit to Ralston Arena tonight (11/12) to start a two game, home-and-home series.

Tonight was also Military Appreciation Night in Omaha, drawing in the Lancers' biggest crowd so far this season, as we honored the life of fallen soldier, Daegan Page, who passed away in the Kabul Airport Bombing back in late August 2021.

The Lancers came out firing in the first, as it only took Alex Bump 1:23 to find the back of the net.

Andrew Centrella found Ryan Gillespie behind the attacking net, he was able to hit Bump with a pass right in the low slot area, and he blasted a shot in the bottom right side corner to take the early lead, 1-0.

Just 1:04 later, Ethan Elias scored his first goal of the season, making it his first point since the Fall Classic back in September. He walked to the top of the left side face-off dot after picking up a pass from Luke Strickland, and launched a shot short side to take the 2-0 lead just 2:27 into the game. Due to the traffic in the shooting lane, Sioux Falls goaltender, Isak Posch didn't see it blow by his glove hand.

The Lancers were not silent for long, as Michael Cameron netted his sixth goal of the year off of feeds from Owen Fowler and Nolan Hayes, giving Hayes his first point of the season.

Just a mere 90 seconds later, the Stampede struck back. Clint Levens snuck one by Lancers goalie, Kevin Pasche off a pass from Jack Reimann to cut the lead to 3-1.

That was followed up by a power-play goal from Cal Thomas, with the assist from Garrett Pinoniemi eight minutes later to make the score at the end of the first period, 3-2.

That 3-2 lead for Omaha carried until 16:23 into the third period. Matt Romer got the puck caught up in his skates, but was able to kick the puck across the slot to find Owen Fowler, who nailed the upper-left corner of the net to extend the lead to 4-2 with 3:37 remaining in the game.

That goal was followed up by Matt Basgall netting a 100 foot shot into an empty net with 2:40 left in the third period. Making the final score 5-2 in favor of Omaha. Centrella picked up his second assist of the night on the empty netter.

This win improves the Lancers to 7-4-2-0 on the year, moving them into 4th place in the western conference standings.

The loss for Sioux Falls keeps them at the bottom of the western conference with a 4-8-0-0 record.

The Lancers will be back in action Saturday, November 13th, for a 6:05 P.M. puck drop as they will make the trip to Sioux Falls to cap off the weekend series. That game will be available on HockeyTV and MixLR.
