Strong Second Period Paces Condors to 5-2 Win Over Stockton

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. - Ian McKenzie notched a goal and assist as the Bakersfield Condors (16-34-4-2, 38pts) came-from-behind for the second night in a row to defeat the Stockton Thunder (27-23-1-4, 59pts) 5-2 at Stockton Arena on Sunday afternoon.

After the Condors took a bench minor penalty for too many on the ice, the Thunder struck with a power-play goal from F Chris Doyle who snapped a shot from the left-wing through Condors G Matt Keetley at the 7:49 mark to put Stockton ahead, 1-0. Bakersfield answered back with C Casey Pierro-Zabotel completing a two-on-one breakout with Peter Boyd at 18:12 to tie the game, 1-1. The Condors outshot the Thunder, 16-14.

Bakersfield fired a season-high 22 shots in the second period and rattled off three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead after forty minutes. F Ian McKenzie made it 2-1, 5:45 into the period, banging home a rebounded RW Parker Stanfield shot. D Tyson Gimblett threaded a point shot past Thunder netminder Thomas Heemskerk at 7:01 put the Condors in front by two at 3-1. LW Kyle Calder tucked a RW Tyler Helfrich pass around Heemskerk at 16:23 to extend the lead to 4-1.

Stockton cut into the lead in the third period with F Jordan Fulton scoring his 10th of the season to make it a two-goal deficit at 4-2, 11:56 into the period. However, with the Condors shorthanded late in the frame and the Thunder net empty, LW Peter Boyd lasered a shot from the neutral zone into the vacated cage to give the Condors the final score line of 5-2.

The Condors skated one forward short for the second straight game...Bakersfield now leads the ECHL with 11 shorthanded goals...Bakersfield is now 2-1-0-0 in Stockton this season...C Casey Pierro-Zabotel's first period goal was his first in 18 games and fifth of the season...F Parker Stanfield extended his point streak to 10 games with an assist tonight. He has 5g-10a during the stretch...
