Campbell and Scherer Lead Stingrays Past Gladiators

North Charleston, SC - Forwards Matt Scherer and Trent Campbell each scored a goal and an assist as the South Carolina Stingrays (31-22-3-1) toppled the Gwinnett Gladiators (30-16-7-4) 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The Gladiators took the first lead of the game when forward Bryan Brutlag deflected a shot from defenseman Tyler Kindle between the legs of Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (W, 19 saves on 20 shots) on the power play at 2:52 of the first period. Former Stingray Justin Milo registered the second assist. The Stingrays responded with a man-advantage goal from Campbell at 9:51 from forward Mike Hamilton.

Defenseman Zach Tarkir put the Stingrays up 2-1 at 2:43 of the second period from Campbell and defenseman Dustin Stevenson. Moments later, Scherer lit the lamp shorthanded at 5:17 from defenseman Phil Oreskovic to give the Stingrays a two-goal lead.

Forward Maxime Lacroix sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:39 of the final period from Scherer.
